To boost recruitment and retention of engineers, the state has proposed a separate salary schedule for engineer classes through a supplemental agreement. Ratification for this agreement will start on Friday, May 17 and close at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.
The new salary schedule developed by the state is intended to be more competitive by providing new starting rates that are higher than the midpoint of the current schedule. The higher base pay, according to the state, will result in larger increases and greater earning potential when calculating future across-the-board increases. Other highlights include:
- Ensures larger increases at the SR 24 level and above
- Retains 10 steps in each pay range
- Reduces difference between steps from 4% to 2.75%, due to higher rates
- Ensures uniformity and equity in the salaries paid at each step
- Ends shortage differentials, which will no longer be necessary
Individual increases will be determined by calculating the difference between the employee’s existing total compensation (base pay plus shortage differential) and the higher rate on the new salary schedule for the employee’s current pay range and step.
Effective June 1, employees will be placed on the corresponding pay range and step of the EN salary schedule on Attachment 1. Then, effective July 1, employees will be placed on the corresponding pay range and step of the EN salary schedule on Attachment 2, which includes the 3.59% across the board increase.
