Lights, cameras, ACTION! ✨

Running a full production daily at the Pahoa Public and School Library is librarian and Unit 13 member, Kathryn Tipton. She started her journey as a theater major at UCLA. Upon graduating into the 2008 recession, Katy landed herself a job at the local library in her hometown where she fell in love with her new job. Fostering her skills as an actress, she blossomed into being the bubbly storyteller of the community.

With the cost of living in Hawaii only continuing to rise, Katy counters this by hosting free, weekly events for the families of Pahoa—from keiki story time to food drives. In her district alone, she serves more than 55,000 people. For her incredible leadership, Katy was awarded the 2025 State Manager of the Year at the Governor’s Awards.
