C&C of Honolulu: Aug. 23 Deadline for Compliance with COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

August 20, 2021

Beginning Monday, August 23, City and County of Honolulu employees who do not comply with the requirements of the City's COVID vaccine mandate may face disciplinary action. We continue to strongly encourage COVID vaccinations to protect our community, and we also acknowledge that some people have medical, religious, or personal reasons for not getting vaccinated. For these members, the hasty way in which the employer has mandated the vaccine has created confusion and could negatively impact the public services they provide and their employment.

We continue to encourage employees to complete the COVID-19 vaccination attestation form, and if applicable, the medical or religious exemption form, by the Monday deadline.

Mayor Blangiardi has rejected our demand to bargain the impact of this mandate. All six public-sector unions have asked Governor Ige to intervene in the City and County of Honolulu’s vaccine mandate and have yet to receive a response. The City and County of Honolulu has failed to properly engage and include us throughout this process. The unions continue to work in unison and will be filing class grievances against the City and County of Honolulu.

We will continue to work together to ensure the best working conditions for our employees and the public services you provide.
