Legislative Update: Status on priority bills and real-time updates available online

February 06, 2020

The second year of the 30th Legislative Session is underway and your HGEA staff is working hard to track, monitor and testify on bills that affect our membership. We’re pleased to report that bills to fund the collective bargaining agreements for Units 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 13 and 14 have been passed by both the House Labor Committee and the Senate Labor Committee (note that Unit 6 is not included as their contract was settled and funded during the 2019 Session). We are working with key legislators to ensure these funding bills move quickly through the Legislature.

Since our Legislature functions on a biennium, bills that were introduced last session but did not meet deadlines are still considered “alive” – in fact, some have already been scheduled for committee hearings. The next important deadline at the Legislature is Friday, February 15 - First Lateral, where all bills in the originating house with more than one referral must be in their final committee (for example, a house bill with a House Labor, Finance referral, must have passed out of the Labor Committee to be considered “alive” this Session).

All bills that impact our membership have been flagged on our website. This list of bills is updated in real time, so you’ll always have the most up-to-the-moment information on all bills that we are tracking.
