Board of Regents to Consider Revised Resolution 20-03
August 17, 2020
Controversial Resolution 20-03 is back on the Board of Regents agenda for its virtual meeting on Thursday, August 20, at 8:45 a.m. The initial version of resolution 20-03 was seeking, among other things, to give the administration unprecedented power to "utilize whatever means to reduce operating costs including reduction-in-force, furloughs, freeze or reduction in remuneration to address the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic."
The revised resolution states in part: In concert with the short-term and long-term plans, the Administration should consider, as appropriate, the temporary or permanent closure, consolidation, reorganization, restructuring and/or merger of physical plant facilities, academic programs, departments, colleges, campuses, and education centers to achieve additional financial and administrative efficiencies, academic effectiveness, focus on the highest needs of the state, and continued viability and health of the public higher education enterprise in Hawaii.
