Late last week, Governor David Ige and Superintendent Christina Kishimoto announced that the HIDOE would move to 100% distance learning for the first four weeks of school for Oahu island schools. Yesterday, neighbor island Complex Area Superintendents announced that their schools will be implementing distance learning models on August 17, with the exception of the following schools in the Hana-Lahainaluna-Lanai-Molokai Complex Area:

• Hana High & Elementary
• Kaunakakai Elementary
• Kilohana Elementary
• Maunaloa Elementary
• Molokai Middle
• Molokai High
• Kualapuu Elementary (Public Charter School)

According to the HIDOE news release, schools on Molokai will implement face-to-face and blended learning as previously announced for the first quarter. Hana High and Elementary will implement face-to-face learning for grades K-5 and a hybrid model for upper grades.

The Board of Education approved a new start date of August 17 to allow additional time for mandatory employee training on new protocols, including but not limited to health and safety, student services and distance learning.

Because school administrators were charged with preparing reopening plans for their respective schools, we anticipate possible variations in the reopening plans and implementation between campuses. As issues arise, employees should ask their immediate supervisor for guidance, training, and support.
