Maui Region Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Update: May 20

May 20, 2016

HGEA is currently analyzing the impact of the 9th Circuit Court injunction on the state's efforts to privatize the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, Maui Region. We are working very hard to mitigate any adverse impact upon you, our members.

Communication is key and it is our priority to keep you informed with factual updates and information regarding the actions that we will be taking on your behalf.

While there are many unknowns, please keep in mind that we are seeking answers.

Here's what we know as of today:

  • The July 1, 2016, date of transition is no longer in effect.
  • Unless the court rules otherwise before then, the changes that were communicated by Kaiser Permanente to you will no longer take effect on July 1, 2016.
  • Despite this major development, it is prudent to continue our work to secure a excellent contract if/when the transition takes place.

TODAY: A letter from HGEA Executive Director Randy Perreira was hand delivered to Chief Negotiator James Nishimoto demanding negotiations to discuss the effects of the Circuit Court’s order on our members. Click here to view the letter.

We must organize our efforts and move forward together in preparation for the negotiating of your first contract. Together we will secure a contract that will recruit and retain a highly qualified workforce to provide the best in patient care to the people of Maui and Lanai. Your participation in this effort is key to our success.

In the next few days you will be receiving a survey via your personal email. If you have not provided your personal email address to HGEA, please do so as soon as possible.

Should you have any questions, please contact Irene Puuohau at ipuuohau@hgea.org.
