Governor To Veto SB 2077 Tomorrow

July 11, 2016

Gov. David Ige has scheduled a news conference tomorrow, July 12, at 11 a.m. to announce his veto of Senate Bill 2077 which provides a severance or early retirement for certain hospital employees in the Maui Region affected by privatization. We are insulted that the governor chose this path and put forth a compromise bill.

Gov. Ige transmitted this letter of objections to Senate President Ron Kouchi and House Speaker Joe Souki.

Additionally, this draft of a compromise bill was forwarded to legislative leaders.

We are reviewing the veto message and proposed draft, and following up with legislative leaders advocating consideration of a veto override.
