Okata receives AUW Norman Ahakuelo Labor Award

Russell K. Okata, recent HGEA executive director, was awarded
with the "2007 Norman Ahakuelo Labor Award" at the Aloha United
Way 2008 Annual Recognition Luncheon on April 4.
In 2007, HGEA donated $37,450 to AUW. Approximately fifty
percent of it came from individual pledge donors and the other
half was raised through HGEA's cookbook fundraiser! In
addition, Okata was a chair in the 2007 Annual AUW Golf
Tournament.
The AUW Spirit of Community Awards were established to
recognize and publicly thank Hawaii's donors, whose commitment
through financial and in-kind support has enabled AUW to
further its purpose.
Okata was the first recipient of the Norman Ahakuelo Labor
Award, which was established this year in honor of Ahakuelo --
a former Business Manager and Financial Secretary of the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
