Over 1,000 people lined up to shake hands and congratulate the
man who helped Hawaii's working people for the last 26 years.
On January 31st, Russell K. Okata, former HGEA Executive
Director, celebrated his retirement with a benefit dinner at
the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Through ticket sales and generous
donations, over $170,000 was raised for the Charles R. Kendall
Scholarship & Education Fund, which provides educational
benefits to members and their immediate families. Since the
fund's inception, it has provided more than 1,600 scholarships
statewide. (see picture attached)
Okata has spent his life dedicated to HGEA and even as he
retires, his contribution to the Kendall Fund will continue his
legacy.
